Welcome to our Virginia Trekkers website.  We travel across the five regions of Virginia making educational videos for elementary students. There is so much history and science in our great state, and we can’t wait to share it with you! Use the animation above to explore our site or the navigation menu at the top of this page. (Animation created with Wick).

The Virginia Trekkers are four elementary teachers from Henrico, Virginia. Our names are Alfonso, Brad, David, and Frank. In this video, filmed by our local school news channel, you can get a behind-the-scenes look at how we plan and film our videos. (Trouble viewing the YouTube video? Try Vimeo or direct link). We started trekking in 2008 with the goal of providing teachers and students free educational videos about the Virginia SOLs (Standards of Learning). Our videos mostly focus on fourth grade Social Studies (Viginia History), but we also teach history and science topics for other grade levels. We have two additional websites: Henrico Trekkers (our home county) and USA Trekkers, so be sure to check those out. Come on, let’s go trekkin’!

This is a 3D model of Virginia. Its features have been exaggerated a bit to make them more obvious. Click and drag to move it around. Scroll to zoom in and explore the geography. Which side of Virginia has a lower elevation? Can you see the valleys and ridges in the Valley and Ridge region? What do you notice about the Appalachian Plateau? (This 3-D map was created with 3-D Mapper).

Here is a Google map showing the five regions of Virginia! Click on a region to find out more information. Zoom in with the + on the bottom left. Click the icon in the upper left to turn on/off the different regions.

This is an old Flash activity about the regions of Virginia. We got it to work using Ruffle!
